〇活動フィールド
本州最南端に位置する串本町の海は、黒潮の恩恵によって西側はサンゴ礁域、東側は温帯域となっています。
その為、多種多様な生物が生息する環境が整っているフィールドです。
また、海だけではなく天然記念物のオオサンショウウオが生息する古座川もあり、
海と川２つのフィールドを楽しむことができます。
西側の串本エリアでは、本州最北限とも称されるサンゴの群生地となっており、
ラムサール条約にも登録された非常に豊かな環境となっています。
その中には温帯種から南方種まで非常に多くの生物が生息しており、串本の海を象徴する光景をたくさん目にして頂けるはずです。
例としては、テーブルサンゴの上に温帯種のタカノハダイが休んでいたり、
南方種であるハタタテハゼと温帯種のカゴカキダイの群れ同じエリアで見られる…など。
また、黒潮によって南方で生息している生物が運ばれてきたりと、
南方で生態観察される生物の北限を更新し続ける串本の海は、
毎年のようにダイバーを驚かせてくれます。
一方、潮岬を挟んで東側に位置する古座エリアは古座川の河口に位置しており、
栄養分が豊富な海域となっている事でソフトコーラルやホヤの群生地帯が存在し、
とても色彩豊かな海を堪能させてくれます。
また黒潮の支流が入った時には、外洋から回遊魚が入ってくることもあり、
マクロから時としてワイドまで楽しませてくれます。
更に西側のエリアでは稀にしか見られないサクラダイが群れで居たり、
深場を好むハナダイの種類が生息するなど西側とは違った光景を堪能できます。
このように、サンゴ礁域の串本エリア(西)と温帯種の古座エリア(東)が隣接している串本町の海には、日本国内に生息する魚種の約１／３を観察することができ、今後もその数は増えることが予想される非常にポテンシャルの高いエリアになっています。
そして淡水エリアの古座川では、天然記念物に指定されているオオサンショウウオが生息。
各国のカメラマンやNHKの取材も訪れるほど魅力的なエリアになっています。
春には近年発見された新種のクマノザクラを観察できる場所もあるそうで、
６月頃に姿を見せる世界最小のハッチョウトンボなど陸上も素晴らしい環境が揃っています。
〇活動コンセプト
黒潮の恩恵をうけた串本と古座の海には、全国から多くのダイバーの方々がお越し下さいます。そんな皆さんに串本の海をさらに知って頂きたいと思っています。
そんな魅力的な海を若手ガイドとしての目線を活かし、串本エリアの海の変化や魅力・そして古座エリアの海と川の魅力をより多くの方々に知って頂く機会になれば、と思い活動中。
ここでは決まった日程ごとに、所属店の異なるガイドがその時々の串本の海を、
テーマに沿った写真と共に皆様に発信していきます。
今現在たくさんお越し頂いている皆様、串本・古座へ行ってみたい！とお考えの、これからお越し頂く皆様も、このページをご覧頂くことでより串本・古座の海を好きになって頂き、お越し頂くキッカケになれば幸いです。

About our active fields
The seashore of Kushimoto and Koza located at southernmost tip of Honshu is composed of coral reef areas on the west side and temperate zone on the east side.
Because there are two kind of areas, a wide variety of creatures inhabit. We can see the one third of the fish inhabiting Japan live in Kushimoto area.
And there is also river that the natural monument Salmon salamander lives.
So, you can enjoy diving in the sea and river. That is a characteristic of our active area.
About Kushimoto area
Kushimoto area is a coral habitat, also called Honshuu’s(That means the name of the continent of Japan) northernmost limit. And then, it is a very rich environment registered also in the Ramsar Convention.
In this area, so many creatures inhabit from temperate spices to southern species, and you should be able to see many scenes symbolizing Kushimoto’s sea.
For example, you can see many Lion-fish that is southern species and many “Stripey” that is temperate species in same area. This sight is unusual worldwide.
About Koza area
This area is located at the mouth of Koza River and is a rich sea area by following nutrients from the river. And there are many Soft Coral and many sea squirts.
So, you can see a very colorful ocean in Koza area.
Also, when a tributary of the Kuroshio current enters, migratory fish may come in from the open ocean. And it is entertained from macro creatures to large fishes such as hammer head shark.
In addition, you can enjoy a sight different from Wnst side such as the cherry anthias that are rarely seen in the western area are in flocks, the Anthias which likes deep fields live.
Thus, in the sea of Kushimoto Town, where the Kushimoto area in the coral area and Koza area in the temprate zone are adjacent, you can observe about one-third of the fish species inhabitied in Japan. And it is expected to increase the type of fish inhabited in this area. So this area has high potencial.
And then, there are horsetail salamanders designated as natural treasures in Koza river. It is attractive area that photographers come from various countries and NHK visit to interview.
There seems to be a place where you can observe a new kind of cherry blossom that was discovered in recent year in spring. There is also wonderful environment on the ground such as “Hacchotonnbo” which is the smallest dragonfly will appear in June at the Koza river.
What is this site?
Many divers from all over Japan and from all over the world will come to Kushimoto and Koza area that benefited from Kuroshio.
I’d like to have more divers know our active fields such as sea and river.
I think that it would be an opportunity to let many people know the charm of our active fields such as seas, river and ground by the viewpoint of each member guides.
Every week, guide member in charge will introduce the charm of the sea to everyone using photographs according to the theme.
I hope that this site plays a role of making many divers like and want to go to the areas of Kushimoto and Koza .
